Headed down North Freo way last night to catch up with two beautiful ladies, Linda and Gen, drink some wine and snaffle a burger. The venue and the drinks - Mrs Brown, the cuisine - Flipside Burger Bar. If you're not familiar with how this concept works allow me to explain. You grab a table inside Mrs Brown, hopefully by the fire and find yourself one of the Enid Blyton books which are in fact the wine list. Order yourself some wine and then duck next door to Flipside and order a burger. Then you duck back to the fire and your friends and sit back, relax and have a great evening....
Mrs Brown is a cool little bar tucked away next to Mojos and is decked out with old chairs and couches. A good crowd last night too, not a spare seat to be found after 7.30. The wine list isn't incredibly extensive but there's some good ones on there, the bar dude was a little taken back when I questioned which of the three Shiraz's on offer was the meatiest but he soon worked out what I meant and his suggestion was on the money, the three Shiraz's ranged in price from around 40+ to 60+ (I could be slightly wrong there but close enough).
Flipside Burger Bar make some special burgers, we ordered one each and I gotta say they were so good that we smashed our way through them. We stopped 3/4 of the way through to laugh at each other and catch a breath. The only quibble is maybe a touch more salt on the chips please because once the burgers arrive from next door we kinda don't have access to condiments etc. maybe a sachet in each bag or something. But that's minor and all round the burgers were well tasty and judging by the amount of people devouring them inside Mrs Brown, extremely popular.
I'm really enjoying the fact that Perth and some of its' surrounds are starting to mix it up a bit and offer us more than a public bar attached to a beer garden as a venue to catch up with friends mid week. So many new small cool bars opening around the place, it's making Perth fun again.
