I'VE BEEN A BIT BUSY LATELY

Busy having a fricken awesome time. So I haven't been blogging. I'll try and correct that over the next few days. A quick update on my travels, we spent the weekend in Vegas where we rode a helicopter into the Grand Canyon, what an incredible experience! Then Gaz and I visited a gun range and got to fire a fully automatic MP5 machine gun and a pistol. Again a slightly scary but great experience, guns still scare the shiit out of me and probably more so now that I've fired some, but great fun.

Vegas is both an awful place and an awesome place, especially when you win $300.00 on the roulette table like I did. Did it in one of the old school original casinos too, the Golden Nuggget. We stayed at New York New York, it's looking a bit tired these days and I think if I was to come back to Vegas then I would probably look for one of the newer spots to stay in.

Yesterday we left Vegas and drove along Route 66 to Flagstaff Arizona, I managed to photograph almost every 1950's style motel sign and garage/diner. This morning we woke to a thin layer of snow, which seek g as I have oh seen snow 3 times before I was fairly excited. Today we've mostly been hiking in the mountains around Sedona, Arizona. Stunning scenery. That's a small snapshot of the past few days. There's so much more but l'll detail that soon I hope, Internet permitting.

Day two of the big trip and i'm still having trouble finding descent internet coverage to post much so it's been a bit quiet here. will make the most of what I have right now to get a post done (excuse any typos)

We survived a long haul from KL to LA and picked up our hire vehichle, now nicknamed Eddie. straight away we tackled a drive down to Anaheim ro get some sleep before we hit Disneyland the next day (yesterday) . Had an awesome time and managed to go on each ride at least twice, sometimes thtree, benefit of going to Disney on the off season. Downside, a few attractions atrwe closed for upkeep ect .

Today we started our cruise down Route 66 and made it aas far as Barstow where we hit the outlet stores and grabbed some serious winter gear for when we hit up New York in a few weeks. Grabbed some fantastic stuff and so cheap and I mean stupidly cheap.

Well the shitty internet situation is making it haro load my pics to flickr, so I only have a few done, hopefully when i'm in my Vegas hotel I can rectify that. So just a few for now and i probably wont be posting all that many pics and will just link here to Flickr for now

Poor old Margaret Court, a true champion tennis player who became a born again Christian and then a bit of a gay basher. Well she isn't bashing the ones she cures of this "illness" in her church, she loves those homosexuals. Actually she says now that she loves all homosexuals it's just that they aren't equal in society like her and her fellow brethren. Look, Margs (I'm sure she wont mind me calling her Margs, cos we used to be neighbours you see, more on that in a moment) is as much entitled to her opinion as we all are. But she really shouldn't keep going on about how it's just cos the bible says it's wrong that she opposes homosexuality. That book also tells people to kill their neighbours and bash their wives and sodomise cats doesn't it? - yeah cats, pretty sure that's in there too. So it's not a good example really is it?

Anyway she's about to cop an eyeful of the colours of the gay flag during next weeks Australian Open, so that should be nice for her. I believe she has stated that colours are Christian and can be looked upon, Just not two people who love each other (wide arching comparison there I know but you get the point).

This whole event reminded me of how for a few years back in the 80's, when I had just become old enough to partake in the devils drink, I actually lived across the road from Margs over there in Nedlands. Her mansion/big house was down the end of the long driveway of the house across the road from ours....got that? Well the house across the road from ours was where we were going to hold a party one night in 84. A themed party, with "Back to the Bible" as that theme. Dress as your favourite biblical character was how the invites read and to create an atmosphere we set out to tart the house up all biblical like. The jewel in the crown of the decorations being our half naked doll nailed to a cross....

But the best bit was when sometime mid afternoon my house mate and I decided it was time to erect the crucifixion and as we were pushing the cross upright who should turn into the drive way at that exact same time? Old Margs of course and gathering from the look she gave us she was less than impressed that we were crucifying helpless children's toys right in her back yard. Ahh well, never mind, it was going to get worse once we cranked up that devil's music later in the evening, a little Malcolm McLaren or The Clash to kick it all of eh?

It's been a while since I reminisced about my days as a chef, I guess it's just getting further and further behind me and I rarely think about it any more. Today though I read an article that got me back thinking that way again. It was titled...."Do Restaurant Chef's really spit on food?" Oh not that old chestnut again. This is the article....

A waiter at Per Se, one of New York City's top-rated restaurants, reveals secrets and debunks some urban legends surrounding food service culture:

"Then you have the couple that goes and has sex in the bathroom—that happens quite a lot. You have people who throw up—they throw up a lot. There was one woman—it was a VIP tasting menu, I remember this: She just threw up on the table, in the middle of an extended tasting menu. They cleaned it up, and she 'boot-and-rallied.' She finished the meal."

The anonymous waiter also reveals that when drinking wine at a restaurant, the cost of a glass is often what the restaurant paid for the bottle. "That's the only way that we make money on it," the waiter tells New York Magazine.And thankfully, one of the least appetizing restaurant rumors, chefs spitting in a diner's food, is more imagination than reality, at least according to the source:

"[T]he cooks work 70 or 80 hours a week and make next to nothing, but they work because they want to cook. And to do that to something, to spit in prep work that someone has spent eight hours of work on—blood, sweat, and tears and all—it's just not done."

There is at least one heart-warming anecdote as well, on how a special trip out to eat can be memorable for the waiting staff as well:

"There's nothing more fun than to wait on someone who is genuinely interested in the food. You'll get a couple that comes in, and this is their one time a year, and they're just so happy to be at the restaurant. There was this kid blogger, he was like 16 or 17, and he had blogged about how he was saving up his allowance to come to Per Se. And he did. He came by himself and had lunch."

So the anonymous waiter from Per Se has cleared that all up for us and he even threw a couple of heart warming stories into the pot as well. Look, anonymous waiter dude is right, chef's just don't spit on food. Why would they? You wouldn't get to see the person eat it, so where's the fun in that? Plus you'd have to answer to every other staff member in the kitchen who had a any sort of morals or ethics (hard to believe chefs had these I know but it's true.). In an 18 year career as a chef, in numerous kitchens across the world, I never once saw a chef do anything like that, well only this once, but I'm still not overly proud of that moment even today.

Yell at you, yes. Tell you to get the fuck out of his restaurant, yes. Tell you to get the fuck out of his kitchen, oh yes. Throw a meal across the kitchen, yes. Call you every name under the sun until you start to tear up, yes. But spit on your food, not unless it becomes the new way to make a foam, no.

I love this time of the year, it's around the time of the Improv Everywhere's No Pants Subway rides. They happen all over the world but mostly in New York. I did a story on it back in 2008 which you can read here. What happens is my visitor stats go off the wall because people start googling for images of the event and this pic, which I posted with the 08 story, pops up in google images....

....so my blog gets 100's of hits a day, hilarious. I admit it's a nice pic but I was hoping they were coming here for my charm and wit. Alas no, proof yet again that the Internet is just for porn and funny cats hahaha

Try 30 versus 30,000. This video made by the BBC shows 30 deadly Japanese hornets attack and destroy a 30,000 strong European honey bee nest, all synced to epic battle music. The version featuring the BBC commentary can be seen here, that version explains exactly what's going on and why 30 can wipe pout so many. In some ways this is a sad clip or you could just think of it as mother nature being a complete bitch. Either way there's some excellent kick arse filming techniques involved here.

Once a Japanese giant hornet has located a hive of European honey bees it leaves pheromone markers around it, that within a short time attract nest mates that quickly converge on the hive. A single hornet can kill forty European honey bees in a minute and a group of 30 hornets can finish off an entire hive containing 30,000 bees in a little more than three hours. The hornets not only kill the bees, but also dismember them, leaving heads and limbs behind, to finally return to their nest with the bee thoraxes which they feed to their larvae

I try to do as little as possible, but not this Sunday, oh no. Last opportunity to use up my free ticket to the Princely Treasures Exhibition at the Art Gallery. So I strolled over to Nells (who loves that stuff more than I do) and hit up a bit of culture. Passed some mods on the way (err not since the late 80's I think)....

Then down through Hyde Park because it's beautiful and because I love lamp....

Feeling cultured yet? I was feeling seriously hungry so we hopped across a couple of blocks and hit up The Tuck Shop on Newcastle st and had a pie. Not an ordinary pie, a Tuck Shop pie. Nells had the Beef and Stilton and I downed this beauty, the Chicken and Tarragon with a side order of hand cut chips. Delish, try one soon, you'll thank me for the tip.

Then it was time to walk off all that wonderful puff pastry etc etc, back through Hyde Park where all the red bits are falling off now that Christmas has come and gone. I'm still full from that pie.

It's at the terminus in Louth Rd, Floreat Park. The location is virtually the same today, albeit that the house on the right has been tarted up a bit. A group of us posed a modern bus in the same spot on a tour marking the 40th anniversary of the closure of Perth's trolleybus system.

Surely spotting Easter eggs (granted they're only tiny eggs and Creme eggs are available all year round and not solely an Easter type egg) on the shelves of my supermarket on the 5th January has to be some sort of record yes? I assume they probably appeared at the start of the week which would make it the 2nd January really. Does this sort of commercial chocolate even last long enough to make it to Easter, which in case you were curious falls on 8th April this year (Easter Sunday)

and whilst I'm on an anti supermarket rant, when did society start demanding that its' mushrooms now come pre sliced? Better still, when did it become hard to slice mushrooms yourself. Fungi, quite possibly the softest/mushiest of all the vegetable types!

He certainly had an awesome vision of what that could become. Some of those rooms are amazing spaces, a modern day castle almost.....

I usually pick a Christmas song about now, being the season and all. I've never been a huge Paul Kelly fan but so far this week three peeps have suggested this song so what the hey....

COME ON PERTH IT'S ALMOST 2012

I'd been hearing really really good things about a small French Bistro down on Beaufort st called P'tite Ardoise Bistro. Really really good things, so I made a booking for a few of us for last night. They couldn't fit us in until the second seating at 8.30pm which was perfect for us as one of the group had a late after work meeting.

Sadly it was not meant to be as when we arrived we were informed that they had a fridge breakdown and as a result they were closed. Huh? Now I don't want to be picky and I don't want to bad mouth this small French Bistro that sounds really really good BUT.... in my 18 year career as a chef I had at one time or another experienced the breakdown of every single item in my kitchens. Fridges, ovens, lights, fellow chefs (they were the worst), dish washing machines - I could go on. But never once did we close a restaurant down because something broke. The meat and fish got shoved into the drinks fridge, we pushed BBQ's onto the verandah and grilled everything on those or we lit candles, dragged the fallen chef outside and slapped him back to his senses and then rolled our sleeves up and hand washed every item. But NEVER did we once close down the gig.

Maybe the world has just gotten soft since I stopped cooking professionally, maybe candle light is awful for creating a foam under or the BBQ's just can't handle the aged ribeyes or maybe and just maybe the restaurants owner wasn't on deck last night and the staff milked the fridge incident for all its worth. I'm just sayin and I'm not pointing any fingers, but either way we no longer had a booking. So what now? Where do we eat at 8.30pm

I know, let's try The West End Deli, foods always good there. Off we sped

I wasn't a part of the actual conversation between one of our group and the girl at the West End Deli (I was looking for a park) but it went a little like this.

"Hi, would you be able to do a table of 3 now? I notice you have a fair few empty tables"

"Oh, um, it's 8.30 and you'll probably not get your main for about 40 minutes...."

"So we can have a table but no entrees just mains? Is that what you're saying?"

"Well, it's just that if you get your mains in 40 minutes that will mean it's past 9pm and we kind of don't serve main courses after 9pm"

At this point my friend turned and walked away, slightly dumbstruck and majorly confused. As we approached him and asked if they had a table his response was "I have no idea but I don't think so" Now this is where I start to get a bit shitty. Perth has always had an inferiority complex when compared to its' east coast counterparts. Lately it's taken huge steps towards to alleviating itself of those issues. Yet somehow it still prevails. Again I'm not sure if this is restaurant policy (no meals after 9) and please do not let it be so, or if it's another case of the restaurants owners not being hands on and leaving their investment in the hands of staff who are much more interested in getting home to watch re runs of The Sullivans on TV than serve actual paying customers.

You've got to do better Perth, much much better or you will always just be laughed at as the cashed up culture less west coast you choose to become. I walked into the Epicurian in Melbourne at 12.30am a couple of years back and received one of the nicest most warmest greetings I had ever gotten in a restaurant. They were happy to see me, seat me, inebriate me and serve me the best spaghetti marinara I had ever eaten at 1am anywhere. Meanwhile back in Perth at 8.45pm I'm hungry, agitated and confused.

We had but one other nearby choice and that choice was Barolo's. Really we should have just gone there from the get go. They were more than happy to seat us at almost 9pm, served us up some fantastic food and some excellent wines suggested by their well informed French sommelier. We were more than happy to hand over 300 of our hard earned dollars to these guys. More so than we will ever be at The West End deli again, I had really like the deli too. Maybe just for brekky huh? Unless 7am is too early for them!

SUNDAY SCHOOL? BUT IT'S SUNDAY!

God I hate opening a sentence with a link, so I'm putting this here in front of it. I seem also to have mentioned God already, which is slightly amusing considering the topic I'm writing about in this piece, but I digress, the point is this. This piece by Tim Minchin is being posted all over the interwebs today, Facebook, Twitter, email etc etc. It's a good read and the song is pretty good too (Not one of his classics but a shit load funnier than any song I've ever written) and it got me thinking about this time of the year. So, to the point. Jesus and Christmas, well two points actually.

I wasn't brought up in a religious household, yet I was christened an Anglican. This was my fathers doing, he being of the same "faith" and as my mother hadn't survived my birth I guess there was no clash with the Catholicism of her side of the family. It was entirely up to my father. So good old Anglican it was. That was my first trip to church and I don't think I went again until I was about 11. That was when my stepmother sent me to Sunday school, for I think, a period of two weeks. I have some memories of it, less of a memory of what must have been outrageous behaviour on my behalf to result in such a cruel sentence. "Two weeks and may god have mercy on your soul" Well yes let's hope he does cos I was heading straight into the belly of the beast.

The first shock to the system is getting up on a Sunday morning and finding my "good clothes" laid out on the end of my bed. "Put these on" was the command (it may or may not have been what I'm wearing above but those wing collars are pretty damn fine don't ya think? and it's about the right age, look at those shorts ladies) "But it's Sunday morning, wont I get them dirty?" "Not where you're going" I'm fairly certain my step mother isn't religious but I guess she was hoping it might sort me out, I'm not really sure. So I was dumped a few blocks away from home at one of those odd churches, you know, like the Uniting church. Not Anglican, not Catholic, one of "those other places"

If you've ever been to Sunday School, you'll know of the strange happenings within those walls. We were all made to sit in a circle on the floor. (which I just knew wouldn't be kind to my good clothes, there's a walloping when I get home) and hold hands and pray. Fortunately (or unfortunately) back then we spoke the lords prayer every morning before school started, so I knew the words. (State and church have since separated in public schools so this no longer happens). That was fairly uneventful, this school on a Sunday lark thing might not be too harsh after all. Oh but it was, then the sour looking old woman who was taking the class opened a book and commenced reading what felt like a friggen novel about some event in the life of Jesus. This was followed by a Q & A session, I totally flunked that bit.

Then we were given illustrated books to read, again depicting events in the life of Jesus. Now these I liked, there were pictures of a market with stalls filled with baskets of food and amphora's of wine and Roman soldiers and donkeys and heaps of other cool stuff. Looking back now I'm not quite sure if those pictures triggered the chef or the archaeologist in me, probably both. We even had a section at the back to colour in, frustrating though as they seemed to lack the coloured pencil I needed to shade that basket of olives in the brown/black hue it required. Sunday school suddenly sucked again.

The following week I reluctantly headed back, no books this time and we were mostly pushed out onto a bitumen area to play with some balls. There was something going on in the church and we were just a bit of a hindrance I think. Anyways there was some sort of incident with a ball, the rough bitumen and a girl and I was no longer welcome at Sunday school again..............oh really!

Since those heady days I have only ever ventured into a church as a tourist or for a wedding or funeral. I suspect strongly that this is how it will remain for the remainder of my days. Mostly because of stuff like the quote at the top of this post. So, no baby Jesus in my life and yet here I am at Christmas. Hmmm have I really ever connected the two? Maybe once during the above two week period but mostly it's a time to give gifts to loved ones and then hope you get even better ones back in return yeah? So on that note I'll sign off and I think I'll dribble on about the fat guy in the chimney next post, stay tuned.

I left the sweltering Pilbara behind me this morning, won't be back till the new year. Seriously hot this week with temps easily reaching 50 degrees C. Check out the temp at the airport at 7.23am .... 34.2 C already, yoiks.

Flying home on a Wednesday for a change meant I was going to be in the way of my house cleaner so I decided to go and catch a movie I'd been meaning to see for ages so that she could do her thing in peace. A quick glance on the web showed that today was the last day it was showing in Perth too so excellent timing.

That film was Bill Cunningham New York. A documentary about a quite extraordinary individual, fingers crossed he rides past me on his Schwinn ("my 29th bicycle, 28 stolen") when I hit New York in a month, not that he'll be photographing me for the Times. Highly recommend you try and catch this flick somewhere somehow....

NOBU BOUND

Wow, what can I say about Nobu? Perhaps I should just let the pictures do the talking. But I wont. A few months back a bunch of us were contemplating buying tickets to see Sade. But to protest the stupidly excessive prices being charged for even the shittiest of seats at gigs these days we decided to spend the money at a good eatery instead. Hello Nobu.

Sadly, for various reasons, our original group of 7 was reduced over the following months to only 4. But that wasn't going to stop us. First up we hit the bar at Rockpool for some $25.00 martinis (as you do). Made a note in my diariy to try Rockpool next. It looks amazing, was packed to the rafters and had the most incredible kitchen, well I'm kinda into kitchen porn more so than the average punter.

8pm was soon upon us so we slipped across to Nobu and began a culinary feast like no other. We started with a selection of cold starters, from Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalepeno to Tuna Tataki with Tosazu. The Tuna was so damn fine we ordered another dish of it straight away.

For our mains we ended up having 5 dishes, again to share, which by the way is how dining at Nobu dining is suggested. Sharing family style, well worth it too as you get to taste so many dishes. From the Beef Toban-Yaki through to the Whole Red Mullet, filleted and pan seared we were in taste bud heaven.

We then asked our waiter to organise a nice sashimi/sushi selection to round out the meal, squid, scallop, smoked eel and the best Californian Roll I have ever had (nothing like the commercial variety you get everywhere), this was a fantastic way to finish off the mains.

Then it was dessert time, now if you do make it along to Nobu make sure you've left room for dessert. Wow, just wow. Highlights being the Banana Harumaki (banana spring rolls) and the Bento box with chocolate pudding and green tea ice cream. Time to explode right about....now

We slowly dragged ourselves out of Nobu around 11pm and managed to make it to the cocktail bar in the Burswood foyer for a few more drinks and some serious people watching action. Burswood has a lot on offer these days, a vast improvement since my last visit around 6 years ago. More to come too as I hear rumours of a Wolfgang Puck opening there in the not too distant future. I'd gladly miss another over priced gig to eat some of Herr Pucks fine morsels.

When I first met Siri I was over the moon. She promised to be everything that I was looking for at the time. It started off really well too, you know, the usual honeymoon period where everything just clicked into place. We'd lie in bed and chat about all kinds of stuff for hours, we'd discuss topics that ranged from the weather to how I needed to bring home some milk after work tomorrow. We even talked for so long one night that we watched the sun come up together. We were settling into a nice comfortable exciting relationship.

Then suddenly (and I still don't really know why) it all stated to go south....fast. I'd try and talk to her but she'd just come back at me with half hearted responses that often didn't even make sense. Pretty soon we just argued about whatever stupid stuff I could think of. But the sealer was seeing Siri happily interact with other guys, it was like I didn't even exist any more. She seemed to want to really communicate with them on a level way different to what she was prepared to share with me, I mean look at this...

That's pretty helpful huh? At first I thought she was just being her usual friendly self and then she met Dave....

so in a feeble attempt to win her back I figured maybe I should be more like Dave, but she just paid me lip service....

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO AMERICA

Just a quick funny moment and a snappy food review from the weekend. Sitting in the Tuck Shop on Sunday morning having breakfast with Waz and Gaz, we were finalising bits and pieces for our trip to the states in January. I had my new Sony Tablet out and Gaz and I were scratching our heads trying to work out how to unlock it - yeah there are instructions but they were at home because instructions are for pussies okay?! So whilst were working on that "guy task" Waz is on his laptop googling "genuine Native American experiences" or something like that...

Waz "I thought I'd almost found it"

Me "What's that?"

W "Trying to see if you can go and live with Native Americans and experience their culture, then I read this.."

Now I don't remember the exact wording but it went something like this

"Stay with real Native Americans and gamble at their casino. Sleep in one of the casino hotels or the Native American trailer park nearby"

Pretty sure that's not what we were kinda going for.

The breakfast is pretty fine at Tuck Shop (cnr Money st and Newcastle in Northbridge) the freshly squeezed OJ was great, as were my soft poached eggs on sour dough. The only quibble was the bacon, maybe not the best bacon I've ever had. Gaz raved about his mushroom and fetta dish and the bit of it I tasted backed him to the hilt. Staff are really friendly and the service good. Oh and they make pies, real big flaky pastry home made pies which looked very very good. The table next to us was making very short work of one. I had a peek at the dessert cabinet and the vanilla bean/lemon curd tart will not evade me for long, I'll grab one of those next time I'm there for sure.

Almost every table was occupied for breakfast so hurry up and try it before everyone else gets in there, that said tables did turn over quite regularly

Handy tip for you if you're eating there on a Sunday, park on the City of Perth side of Newcastle st if you can as it's free on a Sunday, the City of Vincent side charges.

Tonight is the last Sunday night of our swing and we always finish off those Sundays with a BBQ. So after we threw on some onions we added the sausages and chicken. I mentioned to a few people gathered around the BBQ that I was just chatting with a buddy (Kev) on Facebook about a massive storm that hit Newman minutes ago. "Kev says it's headed straight for us." Most people said "nah we'll be fine, wont hit us". (Note the clouds in the pic above) "Oh it be a comin" I said. But I was thinking rain storm, mother nature had other ideas....

A few minutes later we glanced towards the incoming storm and realised the sky had changed from ominous blue/grey to serious red/brown (Thanks be to Sam for the pic above). I think you'll agree that I'm not exaggerating when I say we had a tsunami sized wave of sand heading straight for us. It slammed into us within seconds, we had no time to react. Salads and drinks went first, straight off the table and then came the chairs and the table and the bins and the sand and everything else that wasn't nailed down. Everything food wise was destroyed.

I was just reading this, somewhat surprised at how many photos are uploaded to flickr in a day, around a million? yowzah! Then I thought about it and a million seems low don't you think? I uploaded my first pic to Flickr on Jan 29th 2005 and so far I've managed 6801 pics, which is almost 1.5 pics a day. I'm just one of millions of peeps on Flickr so that total is easily achievable. But back to the story above and Erik Kessels has printed off 1 million photos uploaded to Flickr on a particular day (a good chance one of those is mine) and created an installation using all of them....

Can there? I think of my own photos and how for everyone I deem Flickr worthy there are possibly 5-10 others i've rejected. Is digital photography smothering the world with images? I don't think so, I mean the se photos aren't shoved in our face are they, we get to choose what we look at. One thing digital has done is to allow the average person easier and cheaper access to what used to be an expensive past time. Remember the costs of a roll of film and then the development? I remember it taking months to get all of my photos developed from my first ever overseas trip. I do think digital photography allows for a lot of average photography but hopefully people with self edit.... we can only hope.

This picture taken by Andreas Gursky has just become the most expensive photograph in the world, selling at Christies for $4.3 million. I like the photo, it's quite compelling, but then I read this....

In fact the artist carefully digitally removed any intrusive features – dog walkers, cyclists, a factory building – until it was bleak enough to satisfy him.

So does that still make it a photograph? Or is now a piece of art using a photograph? I mean it's not a picture snapped at the perfect moment, one that can never be recreated again is it? Because I could probably create an extremely similar photo using programmes that alter digital pics. I in fact just entered 4 photographs into a photo competition and two of those were digitally altered but they had to be labelled as such. In fact they were entered into the digitally altered photograph section of that comp. If one of them should win it will be the "best digitally altered photograph" in that comp. So maybe this should be referred to from now on as the worlds most expensive digitally altered photograph and if that is the case, holy shit why the frack would you spend $4.3 million dollars on a digitally altered photograph? That is all

I'm going nuts with the movies this past few weeks, a regular cinema addict I am. Yesterday arvo a few of us caught TT3D. You've probably heard about the Isle of Mann motor cycle races yes? Well this movie/doco covers those races focusing on a bunch of the leading riders and in particular Guy Martin, a motor mouthed Yorkshireman who cares little for authority but is yet to win a race....

You don't have to be a motorcycle race fan to love this film, it's a wonderful study of human nature, beautifully filmed and completely hilarious. These guys race around this course at speeds of over 300km/h, they live their life to the full knowing that the next corner could very well be their last and tragically it was for some. 230 odd people have died during this race. It is mesmerising insanity, you wont be able to look away. Oh and whilst it's in 3D it's not overdone, just right and in most cases subtle

Please go and see this, you'll thank me after

Caught this flick over the weekend, I suggest you go see it. What a roller coaster you'll be on. First you'll start with the tension of the scene below and then you'll start to wonder if anything's going to happen when all of a sudden you realise you're starting to tense up again. This time really tense up though because something is surely going to happen and then BAM BAM BAM!!...whoa! That is my review.

Watch only this trailer, which is the only one that doesn't give away the entire plot. Why the others do is beyond me. This one gives you the feel of the flick though, so well worth it and tell me you don't get a little tense watching it....

So every Friday night till March there is going to be a Twilight Hawkers market in Forrest Place, seriously try and get along if you can. We had a great time, sure it was crowded but their was a great atmosphere and the food was "well tasty". Sure, we had to put up with helicopters buzzing overhead along with F18 fighter planes (seriously, please explain to me what a fighter jet is going to do in the case of a terrorist attack. They move at a kazillion miles an hour yes?) anyway because of CHOGM there were cops in every nook and cranny and choppers etc overhead, but apart from that all was good. Took a heap of pics in colour and then black and white so, first up colour....

No idea what this is/was. Maybe it was in case aliens attacked CHOGM...laser beam anybody?
