BUG BUG BUGGIN OUT
Morning tea break today and some welcome shade, looked up into the tree to find hundreds of these cool beetles (?) crawling all over it. They were targeting the trees seed pods. Great colourings on their shells...

OLD SHED
Had to meet Old Bill at the Old Shed, behind the Old Mill, down by the Old Creek....
plenty of water around but I doubt I'd drink it
we found and old well, not an uncommon thing out here, but this one was pretty cool
not sure best practice safety methods have been used to seal off the well
I can't imagine how hard it would have been to dig this shaft and then line it with timbers, well I could actually....bloody hard

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCAS
This video just made my day a whole heap better....
Music: “To Build a Home” by Cinematic Orchestra
Hello! My name is Lucas and I'm Brazilian. Since I arrived in Australia a lot of beautiful things happened in my life, so on the day I turned 30 I decided to celebrate in a special way, being grateful to the people of Sydney. :)
Thank you so much to all my friends who helped make this happen, without you it would not have been possible. And thank you to everyone who lives in Australia, making this country such a wonderful place.
A big hug, Lucas.

If you liked the video, watch the making of!
On the making of you will see funny things that happened while I was giving away the presents: a woman that gave me some bread, a little kid stealing one of the presents from a woman and escaping, a group of friends giving me something, people playing with their gifts, an Aussie girl learning Brazilian Portuguese and more.
And here you’ll find some pictures we took on the day:
The gifts: a Wallabies rugby ball, 30 minute massage voucher, a painting, a skateboard, a scarf, “the doggy bank”, chocolates, bottle of champagne, a teddy bear, a mini tree to hang pictures, a Japanese porcelain tea jar, mini garden tools for kids, scented oil infuser for the home, iTunes music voucher, mini boxer shorts for a new born baby, origami book, “happyland village vet” (toy for a kid), scented soaps and candles, illustrated photo album, a big soft penguin, aromatic moisturizers and shampoos, books, dvds, other toys for kids and more!

THAT PAST WEEK THAT JUST PASSED BY
Well I may have snapped a few random pics, as you do....
making a racket above my head whilst I waited for some friends was this handsome devil
passed this shop front in East Vic Park, this old school chinese font and the stereotype images remind of when I was a kid and all chinese restaurants had the same,
kinda makes me smile a bit, is that bad?
the top framework is finally going onto what will eventually be Perth's tallest building (is that right?)
I almost didn't notice the stencil of the yelling guy up there in the cup, almost
as you do

9.11.11
Ten years on....wow. It kinda feels more recent than that and yet I also think of it as something that happened way back then. It's a bit confusing really. There's been a number of anniversaries since and I hadn't written anything on those dates bar this one. I guess the media hype has made it more prominent this time round and 10 is a nice rounded number isn't it? How do I feel about it all now? That's a tough one, like everyone else in the world I've heard the stories of the survivors and the victims families, I've seen Bin Laden get a bullet or 10, I've seen the political bullshit that happened after the event, so I'm not really sure how I feel about 9/11 anymore.
I visited "ground zero" 10 months after the it all hapened and in a few months time I'll be visiting it again, 10 years later, maybe I'll have something solid to say about it all then. What I do know is that I still vividly remember turning the TV on and sitting down with my girl to watch some show and seeing instead an image of a burning building. Around 9 hours later I finally turned the TV off and went to bed, it was by then 5 or 6 in the morning. That was one hell of a night and one I'd rather not do again.

DAVID SYLVIAN AND JAPAN
Japan were one of my favourite bands for a time, David Sylvian's voice really set a mood. I first discovered the song Ghosts when a girl I was seeing gave me a mixed tape with the song on it - how romantic, how very new romantic. If you have never heard it have a listen. Incredible. They really should have had more success than they did, but I think they refused to follow the pop star trail so they didn't get as much exposure as your Duran Durans and the like....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR FREDDIE
As most of you who have used google.com today know it's Freddie Mercury's birthday. If you haven't watched the google doodle yet make sure you do it's very cool...
edit: just found this on youtube
I was never a huge Queen fan, they were massive in the 70's which is way before my time, but I and a gazillion other people really took notice of Freddie and his band on the 13th of July 1985. That was the Live Aid gig and we like everyone else who wasn't at either the London or Philadelphia venues was having a party at their house or going to one elsewhere. Act after act came on and we sort of paid attention to the live feed on the TV, but mostly it was a party and we were there to drink and have fun. To enable us to be guilt free for partying during what was basically a telethon for the starving in Ethiopia, we also collected a pile of money for Bob Geldof and co. So like I said we were just partying along when all of a sudden everyone in the room stopped and turned to the TV. Queen were on....
Anyone who knows much about music will have heard of Queens legendary performance at Live Aid and you'd be allowed to maybe brush it off as people hyping up a nice memory or similar, but as one who saw it live I have to say they were 100% right. We were stunned, not even fans, yet to watch Freddie work 80,000 people in that stadium and have complete control over them was something none of us had ever seen before. We were quite literally struck silent in awe. If you don't believe me take the next 25 minutes to watch this vid or the shorter condensed version in the vid below (which will just make you want to watch the longer one anyway) at the very least come in at 7.03 and watch a most amazing moment....
so yeah happy 65th birthday mr freddie

THE STONE MASTERS
Californian Rock Climbers in the Seventies
My copy arrived in the mail a few days ago, flicked through the awesome pics this morning and hopefully have time to sit down tomorrow and start to read through it. Incredible shots and hopefully a great story about a small sub culture from the 70's that led the way for today's rock climbers. These guys and gals look super fit and super insane climbing these rock faces. If I didn't have a spine that turned to jelly at heights I coulda be en one of em ...hehe.

THE BONSAI
How about Uncle Billy's"
Blank stares in return
"Aww come on it might be good, it scores 84% on Urbanspoon"
"Okay we'll give it a try"
We scored a good parking spot in Roe st right in front of The Bonsai Japanese Restaurant.
"Hmmm what about Japanese?"
"But we said Uncle Billys"
"Yeah we did but maybe any good memories are those we had at 4am when we really really needed food and that's not a great way to judge a place is it. Maybe we've talked it up in our heads, whilst over here we have contemporary Japanese..."
So Japanese it was, greeted as soon as we walked in, no we didn't have a booking, table by the toilets it is then. Hmmm not a great start.
The Bonsai is set in an old Roe st warehouse. It's big inside and yet you don't feel lost, nicely laid out it looks great. The left side is filled with couches and leather chairs and has a cool small bar feel about it. Happy to report that the food was as good as the layout, if not better.
We started with 3 selections from their sharing plates menu. If you eat here this is the way to go, sharing plates all round. There's hot dishes, cold dishes, sashimi selections, you name it it's there and priced between 12 and 16 dollars for great value. We chose the wagu beef, salmon cerviche and the chilli crab claw balls for starters between 3 of us. All 3 dishes were fantastic, we could have easily dined just on sharing plates and next time I might do just that. This time however we ordered a main course each. A terri fish, a terri chicken and a crumbed pork. Again all wonderful dishes but the sharing plates were just a notch better.
We'd brought along two bottles of wine and sadly one had turned on us, so we ordered a Riesling from their small wine list as a replacement, a good drop and only 30ish dollars. Dessert was a green tea ice cream, a sesame ice cream (I think) and one of the best creme brulee's I've tasted in Perth in a very long time. Delish. I have to say that The Bonsai is seriously going down as one of my new fav Perth eating houses, it really was good food and good value. If you take the wine out of the equation it worked out to around 40 dollars each for 3 courses. Not bad at all

PICS IN A JAM
Scored a traffic jam on the way into work this morning and then a worse one on the way home. Sadly it looks like the morning one was the result of a truck and a motor cycle rider collision on the freeway in which the truck won. Then this afternoon it rained which sent every Perth driver into that all too familiar "OH MY GOD IT'S WATER AND IT'S ON MY CAR" frenzy that can only be resolved by reducing speed drastically and braking extremely late. Either way I always carry my small digi cam with me and I like to snap pics to pass the time whilst I wait for Perth to get it's collective shit together, so I give you Pics in a Jam ....
My new fav renovated, but not too much, once abandoned arcade. There's a fair few around if you look closely
I'm liking the new city vista at the end of William st
This is a shot from yesterday arvo whilst driving home from the office, note the lack of traffic and the lack of rain
and tonight, an hour and a bit of rain later - jam city
ah well sit back and enjoy the crawl I say
