When it rains in the Pilbara it's best to get the hell out of whatever remote area you are in at the time, because dry river beds very quickly become raging rivers.
A cyclone passed along the coast last weekend and dumped 100's of ml's of water on the region, we did the run from the camp to Newman which usually takes 3 hours in 5 hours. Got bogged in the mud twice, saved only by a water truck that was passing. I reciprocated 30 minutes later when I dragged his truck out of a quagmire. Funniest thing I've ever done, dragged a truck the size of a cement mixer out of a bog with a 4wd, talk about David and Goliath :o)
