EMOTIONAL SEE SAW

I never cease to enjoy nor hate the way a book, a movie or a play can send you on an emotional roller coaster. Two things that have really messed with my head of late are this book and a play I saw last night.

Less Than Zero is the book, I've probably read it 20 years too late, but 20 years ago I couldn't think of anything worse than reading a book. I was happier doing the things that go on in Ellis's story. Not all (read the book and you'll see what I mean) but most anyway. It's a strange read, written in a different style than most books, it kind of reminded me a bit of Jack Kerouac's style. But man it made me feel pretty dark for days, reading it on the window seats of planes at night with Nick Cave playing on my iPod didn't help much either. Staring into space being the end result of that configuration. Ha! But if you "grew" up in the 80's have a read, but don't bother with the film, it sucked.

The play was 1 2 3 and the dog. Amanda dragged me along apologising in advance in case it sucked and she ruined my Saturday night, far from it, it was pretty amusing and brought back some amazing childhood memories. I think most people I spoke to there said it brought back at least one memory they had completely forgotten. So if you live in Perth get along.

Side note: we here in Perth woke up to daylight saving this morning and guess what, the planet hadn't exploded, I haven't noticed any signs of skin cancer, my curtains are holding up well and there was milk on the shelves down at the corner deli. It's been 20 odd years since we last had it, thanks to the conservative tards that populate this state. I'm so looking forward to 8pm tonight when it will still be bright. Watching people tentatively step out of their houses whilst shielding themselves from the sun will be the most fun of all.

"it's okay people come out of your houses, it's just the twilight and it's just an hour later than usual, nothing to be afraid of, you're perfectly safe, now smell the air, run around, discover fun and get the fuck away from that TV" :o)
