"...This amazing art installation was made by Colombian sculptor Doris Salcedo for the International Instanbul Biennale in 2003. She used over 1,550 chairs stacked on an empty lot between two buildings!"
.
"Doris Salcedo makes sculptures and installations that function as political and mental archaeology, using domestic materials charged with significance and suffused with meanings accumulated over years of use in everyday life. Salcedo often takes specific historical events as her point of departure, conveying burdens and conflicts with precise and economical means."
.
Now, I like this installation, it's quite amazing.................but, political and mental archaeology?
.
Cambridge Dictionary:
archaeology, noun [U]the study of the buildings, graves, tools and other objects which belonged to people who lived in the past, in order to learn about their culture and society.
.
so I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, arthouse wank I think.

Maybe it's one for the archaeologists of the future!

I don't know how it is down under, but if we found that here the whole thing would naturally be a ritualistic site, where the chairs were worshipped/sacrificed/offered as gifts (delete where applicable)

Imagine if you found an engraved stone marker in the middle of it, that'd be a cat amongst the chairs wouldn't it
