IT USED TO BE ABOUT THE MOMENT MAN

Years ago when I was younger I used to surf, I used to just take off on the spur of the moment, head down south, with some mates and find secluded breaks on secluded beaches and surf them. I used to park my car in a caravan park and sleep in it. I used to live off of tins of braised steak and onion which were heated up on a portable gas stove and I used to wash it all down with beer. I used to catch some great waves, meet some babes, get drunk and have a great time.

surfs up

Now I'm older and this weekend I'm going down south. This time without a surfboard, still going with some mates, four in fact, three of them being girls. There in lies the problem, now I love these three girls to death but oh man what happened to the spontaneity in my life. First there's the search for the perfect house to stay in. Then there's the "what are we going to eat issue....?"
.
And so the emails begin....
.
"basically, we think everyone should be allocated something to bring.. such as breakky stuff, nibbles, dinner, whatever. i don't think anyone wants to go to the supermarket friday arvo or sat morning. supermarkets are not holiday destinations!
.
so, do we need a list?
.
(zip it up stu!) huh! what did I say? she can hear me think?
.
things to bring: -breakfast food (cereal or toast, juice, milk) -coffee/tea/milo/sugar -cheese/olives/crackers
.
-dinner friday (are you sure you want to organise that karks? we're happy if you are because clearly you cook better than me!! do i speak for everyone??)"
.
Then the reply....
.
ok. i'll bring cheeses, olives, crackers, and whatever other antipasto things i can think of. stu, you organise dessert!
.
marco and stu, you guys are organising breakfast!!! that includes coffee and oj so you two work it out!
.
is that all covered then?
.
Followed by....
.
I can go to the market tomorrow and get some fresh fruit and herbs, maybe some things for a salad- I can aim to get things for Sat lunch??? Eg… salad, cold meats, fresh bread- an Italian lunch!!!

How does that sound??? I won’t bring cheese and that can be someone elses allocation?

I will however bring wine……
.
Bloody hell, allocations??!! I am so just gonna turn up with 12 cans of Braised steak and onions and a carton of beer.
.
But it's going to be a great weekend, organised or not, these guys are some of the best, so pics to follow no doubt.

Oh man, that just brings back the memories of old bombs heading off to the surf. That's a ripper of a banged up ol torana (?). I reckon I can smell the dropped piece of sandy braised steak, baked into the hot vinyl seats!
