We hit the Big Day Out around 2.30pm, just in time to see Eskimo Joe. For some reason the only time I ever see Eskimo Joe is at the Big Day Out and I'm actually okay with that. The weather was awesome and the crowd wasn't too big....yet.
After "The Joe" we headed off to watch Girl Talk, yeah I know the name made me double take as well but it was actually pretty good fun. This guy (yes Girl Talk is a dude) is like a 21st or wedding DJ on acid. The worst music you can imagine made fun, it's hard to explain but you couldn't help but get caught up in the fun.
From there we moved to the Silent Disco. For the uninformed you have a dance floor and as you enter you're given headphones with a choice of two sets being played by two dj's down the back. Brilliant and infectious fun, especially with different people dancing to different beats, It looks hilarious when you're on the outside looking in.
Note: There was a lot of love in that room, I hadn't noticed all of the smooching when I was filming, go figure
From there we found some grass (to sit on), a beer and sort of listened to Dizzee Rascal in the distance until Lily Allen turned out, yeah time to move on. So we headed for food and parted with everyone else, Waz and I where Boiler Room bound, the rest to the main stages for Muse etc. We scored a viewing spot in the licenced area which is to the right of the stage and slightly raised. Eventually we managed to make it to the very front and scored some pretty cool views. We caught the end of Calvin Harris, he was cool. Then the full set of Simian Mobile Disco, yeah good but not really my thing.
I so wasn't counting on standing in one place for 4.5 hours but we had to if we wanted a view. It was well worth the stand when Sasha finally hit the stage for a great set and then the band I had come for, that I'd never actually managed to see before, Groove Armada. This time they had brought St Saviour with them and she was electric and from that distance incredibly like my friend Lulu, I even showed Waz a pic of Lulu I had on my phone to prove it, seriously they even moved the same.
Sadly it was during our time at the Boiler Room that I decided that this would be my last Big Day Out. Reasons being that it's an all ages gig and there is just way too much aggression on display for my liking. This is a problem for me because I'm not really one to turn the cheek and if it directly affects me I have trouble not letting them know. This is not a good thing for my personal well being nor my peace of mind so it was a really tough 4 and a half hours. Give me Summadayze anytime.
Sasha
Sidenote: I spotted these guys trying to jump the fence into the gig, same spot they try every year. Laughable antics and a few of em actually made it in. Such losers, buy a ticket FFS.

I've dubbed the vid with the song we were listening to at the time (almost got it right) and I've left the crowd noise in for effect.
