FROM THE TRENCHES

I was due to head back up north yesterday, but the failure of my legs to fully recover from surgery in the time frame I expected put an end to that idea. So I am once again office bound. The upshot being that I am home for my birthday, which is rare. Can't complain and after receiving the following photo from the crew I was meant to be up there with, I gotta say I'm kinda glad I didn't go.

What you are about to see may make even the strong at heart feel weak in the stomach, these are native Australian honey bees. They are harmless but they love your sweat, they need to drink just like you and I. So they smother you and being very small they get tangled in your body hair, plus you actually feel their tiny feet crawling over you. It's about 5 times worse than a fly. But you don't want to kill the lil fellas, they're just trying to make honey like the rest of us. But the feeling is insane and it will drive even the sanest among us insane. You have been warned...

also I received this pic from one of the other crew of archaeologists to wish me happy birthday. I can only assume the heat up there at the moment has sucked the happiness out of their souls, sad sacks look at em...
