This is Aesop, Aesop was a lad. He was an Afghan champion in both weight lifting and wrestling. He was born in India and came to Australia, truly a man of the world. He owned a big string of camels and employed many other Afghan cameliers.
That's all I really know about Aesop. I discovered him whilst doing some research in our state library, and boy he stood out. So naturally I snapped this photo of his photo.
I'd seriously love to know more about this man. A man who was drawn to Australia by the gold rush, who drove camels across the outback, had the forearms of a god, and who in 1894 at the age of 29 stood for a photo in a gold rush town called Coolgardie, in a photo studio owned by Tuttle & Co photographers and for that photo chose a backdrop of leaves...
