VIEWS OF THE GIZA PYRAMIDS

I spent some more time cruising the New York Public Libraries Digital Collection. Last time I focused on Karnak in Egypt and staying with an Egyptian theme, I scoured late19th and early 20th century views of the Giza Pyramids. A time before the city of Cairo reached their doorstep.

I was lucky enough to visit the Pyramids back in 2010, and all the colour photos in this post are mine, I'm not doing comparrison pics this time round, because as I mentioned above, Cairo has expanded since the the late 1800s and you simply cannot replicate these views now.

The next two pyramids are not exactly the famous and well known Giza pyramids but rather the nearby  Pyramid of Djoser (aka the Step Pyramid) in the Saqqara necropolis...

Sakkarah [Saqqarah] dep. la forêt des palmiers - Sakkarah [Saqqara] dep. the palm forest 1875

and Sneferu's pyramid (aka the Bent Pyramid) in the royal necropolis of Dahshur...

and that's about all I have on pyramids for now
