The Dessert Cafe and Timbuktu Restaurant
Pretty sure this place shut down early 90's but up till then it was a very cool place to eat. An artist friend of mine and his studio partner painted all of the Arabian images that adorned the walls. I used to love the Bedouin tent like ceiling inside the Timbuktu section. Anyone else remember this place? It's called the Pony Club now with a building built in front of it. This is not my pic and I really don't remember where I found it, internet no doubt. Oh yeah, they had a life size cutout of Indiana Jones and a TV in the toilet. I remember being there on a double date on FA Cup final night and my mate and I kept going to the toilet to check the scores. We had very understanding girlfriends at the time.

Do you remember Spaghetti Western's interior? They had a desert scene mural all the way around, painted by a local artist. Then the bedsheet brigade moved in and painted it over. And now the building's been massively reno'd, it really is lost forever. Damn.
I used to go here to have Mummy's Yummy Cheesecake after our Church youth group meetings (that was a LONG time ago). It was worth the drive from Thornlie - a really smooth cheesecake with the unmistakable taste of sweetened condensed milk.
There was also a full-size sarcophagus in the toilet, if I remember rightly.
